Is Social Media marketing right for your business? My opinion is yes and no. Depending on the type of business you have and your primary and secondary audience, it may not make total sense.
I spoke to a potential client the other day, and she was expressing her frustration that her Facebook Fan Page was not getting enough ‘likers’. Not only was no one willing to post any videos about her products, no one seemed willing to post at all.
First thing, I needed to know who her audience is. I found out that the majority of her business comes from women in their 40s and 50s and who are professionals. And while Facebook has a growing market for those over 40s, it is still a relatively small market. In addition, my potential client was only looking for women within a 100-mile radius of her business.
My answer shocked her: “Social Media is not right for you right now. You are marketing to a group of women who might use technology, but they are not using as heavily as those under 40 years old.”
I suggested an alternative way to market. Nurture Marketing.
Then I told her, “You need a Social Media marketing plan.” Why? Because in a few years, the tech-savvy Facebook users will be her clients, and she needs to make sure she has a solid plan in place.
Social Media is a fabulous tool for getting your business known, as well as for getting customers and prospects engaged. Make sure it is the right first step for your business by finding out who your audience is and where they go for their information.
